MTNPlay GameZBoost rAge Challenge 2018

MTN (Mobile Telephone Networks (Pty) Ltd) are sponsoring a whopping R680 000, in prize money, with GameZBoost adding another R120,000 to the prize pool, for the GameZBoost rAge Challenge and the monthly tournaments from October to December 2018. The tournaments are configured on the GameZBoost.com casual gaming platform, which forms part of the gaming offering of the MTN Play mobile entertainment portal.

2018 GameZBoost Rage Challenge

The GameZBoost Summer Challenge is running fully on the GameZBoost.com tournament solution and is structured as follows:

  • Total Prize Money: R680 000
  • Eligibility: Open to all MTN subscribers with an active daily subscription to the GameZBoost service, the daily subscription is R2 – the subscription billing platform is integrated with the MTN / IMI Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) API’s
  • Other Content: All You Can Eat (AYCE) access to over 350 HTML5 games, create Contests to Challenge Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp Friends and redeem Rewards from earned Loyalty points
  • Satellite Tournaments: 4 in total, each carrying a prize purse of R10 000 for the Winner and the Runner-up – both gain an entry into the live final event.
    • 4 x Qualifying rounds to gain entry – Highest Score and Random Winner Formats
      • Realtime leaderboards, with Social sharing of Achievements
      • Open to all active subscribers
      • Most recent score logged goes through (in event of tie / draw)
      • Winner progress as one of the final 8 contestants
  • Winners: Individuals may only win one of the 8 satellite tournaments (refer to the Terms and Conditions)
  • Grand Finale Tournament: R600 000 in total prize money R300 000 to the Winner, R200 000 to the Runner-up and R100 000 to the 3rd Placed Player
  • Grand Finale Tournament Format: Single Elimination (Eliminator) / Knock-out / Sudden Death Tournament
  • Grand Finale Contestants: the 8 winners from the Satellite Tournaments progress to the Grand Finale Tournament
  • Grand Finale Event: the Grand Finale will be a Live event, contestants will be hosted by the organisers, this includes all travel costs being covered by the organisers and sponsors
  • Grand Finale Duration: a 1 day Live event @ rAge 2018 – each playoff round will run for a set time frame, with an intermission during each round:
    • Practice Round – Time assigned for Contestants to familiairize themselves with the Game that will be used for the Live Final
    • 1/4 Finals – 8 Winners from the Satellite Tournament Rounds – Game to be Confirmed at Live Event
    • Semi Finals – 4 Winners from the Eliminator Quarter Final Playoffs – Game to be Confirmed at Live Event
    • Finals – 2 Winners from the Eliminator Semi Final Playoffs – Game to be Confirmed at Live Event

The GameZBoost Tournaments platform has been enhanced with a number of new Live features, these include:

  • Live Commentary: ability to enable user replies – the comments can be moderated and ranked
  • Live Scores: live feed of scores as they’re posted
  • Social Live Cast – solution to configure the live events on Facebook Live and YouTube Live
  • Live Cast – all the rounds will have a live cast to reveal the winners

  • When: 6 October 2018
  • Final Event Format:
    • 8 Seats in Single Eliminator tournament format (Olympic system, knockout, or sudden death)
    • Ring fenced – accessible to 8 participants only
    • Most recent score logged goes through (in event of tie / draw)
    • Platform auto matches players for heats
    • If users doesn’t play, then bye rule applies:
      • Player that played goes through
      • If neither play, then the system auto selects the player to go through
  • Access: Live Event, with devices and network access provided by the organisers
  • Prize: Total Prize Money a whopping R600 000 – Winner Wins R300 000 (+ R10 000 Prize from Satellite Tournament), Runner-up Wins R200 000 (+ R10 000 Prize from Satellite Tournament) and 3rd Place Wins R100 000 (+ R10 000 Prize from Satellite Tournament)
  • Other: Play by Invitation only, network ring fenced
